Publisher Description

A witty contemporary satire on the pitfalls of political correctness. From New Men and earnest academics to New Age Travellers and pig farmers, nobody emerges unscathed.

Dr Louise Case has the right career, the right country cottage and a commitment-free relationship with a fellow academic. According to contemporary codes, it’s all very correct – except that Louise begins to suspect that it’s far from perfect.

Then along comes Rose, eighty if she’s a day, who effortlessly disrupts everything. Soon both campus and cottage are in chaos, while the old lady commences to set her own house – a decrepit old van – in order. And this includes an unthinkably traditional role for Louise…

Little bit too much icing on the cake at the end, but a highly entertaining read

I had a lot of fun reading this book. Being at odds ("been there, done that, didn't work") with the ideological good-doers of several kinds myself, I'm a strong believer in the quintessential message of the book : true freedom can only be achieved once we manage to look through all the artificial rules and dare to embrace our true nature, realise that everything is a choice and start living accordingly. Much easier said than done.
The last chapter was a bit too much icing on the cake. If she had closed with Louise's rewritten review of Lawrence, that would have been sufficient, even without her "physical circumstance" (don't want to spoil the fun for those who haven't read the book yet.) but it doesn't spoil the thorough enjoyment that the book provided me with.
