Power and Influence: James Watt’s Revolution provides resources for math activities designed to be embedded in World History lessons addressing the question: “Why Was the Industrial Revolution British?” The first activity asks students to interpret informational text, including graphs and cartoons. The second activity features units analysis (Algebra 1 and Physics) within the context of James Watt’s calculations. The third activity teaches students to apply areas of regions (Geometry) to find work (energy) generated in various situations. Finally, students apply lessons learned to answer a question related to conservation of energy. The book includes descriptions and animated models of Watt’s innovations in steam engines that allowed his company and nation to lead the world in industrialization.
