PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In this cleverly plotted mystery from LaManna (Sprinkled), a wedding weekend at the glamorous Serenity Spa and Resort on the California coast promises a much needed getaway for three college pals of the bride, but frazzled mom Ginger Adler isn't looking forward to seeing former best friend Emily Brown after a college betrayal; Emily drowns the fallout of a devastating loss in booze; and the boyfriend of wildly successful and beautiful lawyer Kate Cross has left her at the front desk. While catching up and kvetching over plenty of champagne, the three meet 68-year-old Lulu Franc, the groom's aunt, who's afraid her fifth husband is having an affair. When a man is found dead, Ginger, Emily, Kate, and Lulu each confess to his murder. Police interview transcripts with the suspects, bride, and resort staff reveal lots of juicy details, and it's clear that each woman has something to hide. LaManna's women are flawed and relatable, and oodles of drama keep the pages turning all the way to a genuinely surprising final twist. This is the perfect summer beach read.
Customer Reviews
An entertaining and enjoyable read
What drew me to Pretty Guilty Women firstly was the tagline Why would four women confess to the same murder? How intriguing is that! I then read the blurb and knew that this book was for me. Full of suspense, drama, lies and deceit concluding with a great twist, this is everything I love in a mystery and more.
Gina has crafted a plot that had me hooked as I was taken on a journey into the lives of one time college friends Kate, Ginger, and Emily who are reunited for the wedding of their friend Whitney, although reluctantly. Coming together causes some past issues between the women to resurface, but when one of the guests is murdered, the women band together where each one confesses to the crime to protect the real killer.
I enjoyed the characters in the story which I found were a good mix of likeable and unlikeable ones and was intrigued by their backgrounds. Gina does a really good job in giving the reader detailed insight into each one and how there lives have changed, some as not expected, since their college days. Each one is very well developed and they all are believable in the roles that they play.
A new author to me, I enjoyed Gina’s writing style and how this book was structured via different points of view with police interviews interwoven within the chapters which I thought was a great touch. Although at times I felt that the story could have moved at a quicker pace, this is still an enjoyable, entertaining and worthwhile read to lose yourself in.
It was a pleasure to be able to read and review Pretty Guilty Women which I recommend.
Thank-you to NetGalley, Gina LaManna and TBConFB for the free copy of Pretty Guilty Women on ebook which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
