Publisher Description
Charles Warren has dedicated his legal career to aiding people in financial straits. In his newest case, helping a beautiful young widow find the money missing from her late husband's investment accounts, Charlie recognizes a familiar scheme - one that echoes the con job that targeted his own widowed mother many years before, and that led him, as a teenager, to commit a crime of retribution that still weighs on his conscience.
Within hours of starting his investigation, he is followed, shot at and has his briefcase stolen. As Charlie continues to pursue answers, he quickly becomes too entangled in the web of fraud, betrayal and career criminals surrounding the theft to escape its deadly snare.
A nail-biting tale of conspiracy and pursuit from Thomas Perry, Pro Bono will have readers looking over their shoulders as constantly as they keep turning pages.
Customer Reviews
Not the author’s best work
Author
American genre novelist with >20 published titles to his credit.
In brief
Teen shows his Mom that his step-Dad is ripping her off. Becomes lawyer and devotes career to helping others (mainly chicks) being ripped off. Gets involved with ex-con scam artists who know his dark secret, yada, yada, accounting issues, the end.
Writing
Flat prose, reasonable pace, plot that tried too hard, wooden often repetitive dialogue, characters that did nothing for me.
Bottom line
Not the author’s best work IMO
