Publisher Description

“Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen was first published in 1987. It is a young-adult novel that describes survival in wilderness. The novel was the winner of the ‘Newbery Honor Award.’ It was the fifth novel written by the author.

The author, Gary Paulson, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1939. It is said that Paulson was not a brilliant student and he did not have much motivation to inspire him. However, an incident in his life changed his life forever.

It was a very cold day. Gary Paulson entered a library to warm up. In the library, the librarian gave him a library card and a book to read. Paulson was not much interested in reading and he showed reluctance at first, but soon he began to read with a lot of enthusiasm. After reading that book, he was a transformed person and he became an avid reader.
