Range is a book written by David Epstein. In this book, the author writes about the fact that people who are “generalists” are more likely to succeed in life than those who are considered to be “specialists.” Even though specializing too early in life can bring success, the author argues that only those who experience a wide variety of experience in many different fields can achieve the greatest success. 

The book is divided into twelve chapters. Each chapter talks about one specific topic, while all twelve chapters together talk about one big topic: why generalists have an advantage in comparison to specialists. 

The author uses numerous real-life examples in order to show his readers why and how generalists can truly be more successful. Moreover, as the book progresses, the author discusses how the current educational system is creating people with narrow skills that are not possible to transfer. As a result of this, many people are unable to engage in abstract thinking. They are not creative and cannot solve problems that are not familiar to them. The book concludes with the fact that we learn best from gaining examples and experience from different activities in which we participate. We learn from our mistakes and failures and move on.
