Redemption is a beautiful thing.
Yes, I didn’t much like the sound of Victor from the blurb, and the fact that he wanted to take Idris’ tea shop away from him. I was prepared to dislike him and I did. But of course, he is a main character so there has to be something in him that is good. And there is.
It takes a while to see the good, as it takes Victor a while to see the consequences of his actions, as he works through understanding why he is like this, why he feels that everything is about money. Idris is a kind, generous man and is exactly who Victor needs to show him that love is more important than empty possessions.
I love Ms Beecroft’s writing style, she paints a vivid picture of the world around her characters and she allows us to see them for who they are and to feel what they feel.
This was a very satisfying read for me.
