APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
For as long as she can remember, 17-year-old Juliette Ferrars has been shunned as a monster—even by her own parents. That’s because the touch of her skin can kill and her bare hands are capable of demolishing thick concrete. This first book in Tahereh Mafi’s dramatic teen series paints a grim picture of a futuristic world ravaged by environmental destruction and man-made brutality. In the midst of this ugliness, Juliette reconnects with Adam, the only person to treat her younger self with kindness; he’s now a soldier for the murderous Reestablishment. Mafi sets the stage for an electrifying love story between two teenagers scarred by lonely childhoods but united in their refusal to relinquish their humanity.
Customer Reviews
An excellent and quick read, with mediocre ending.
I received this book as a Christmas present from my sister a while back, and upon taking it home that afternoon I ended up sitting in my room and finishing it by that night.
The book is very cleverly written, with a unique insight into the mind of the main character by writing it as if it was the beloved journal that she holds so dear. It had the strong basis of a great "post apocalyptic" love story, and kept that dynamic for most of the book, but at the very last second everything changed. Within the last chapter of the book the author drops an xmen style bombshell on readers, leaving them feeling dissapointed, and honestly a little betrayed by the sudden change in dynamics. Despite this I still found it an excellent read and give it a rating of four out of five.
Underwhelming and unremarkable
This book had so much hype on tik tok but was severely disappointing. The book moves incredibly slowly with a predictable plot line. The characters are don’t draw you in and go as far as being unlikable.
LOVE LOVE LOVE
I was hooked on this book from the very first sentence and I was not disappointed! The perfect blend of romance, action, mystery and plot twists. I love the characters and this world so much!
