Publisher Description
Six Violin Duos for advanced level violin players includes the parts and full scores for Mark O’Connor’s original arrangements of American music classics. This book is a pedagogic companion to O'Connor Method Book IV, which includes 16 additional solo violin pieces for study and performance. These exciting and intricate violin duos present an opportunity for high-intermediate and low-advanced players to enjoy ensemble playing in a duet setting within a myriad of American styles. The pieces contained in the book offer a wide range of finger and bowing techniques, stylistic harmonies, counterpoint, and rhythm, informed by the various American music idioms. The tunes feature some of the best melodies ever created for the violin.
Also, in this iBook you will hear audio clips of Mark and Maggie O’Connor performing these works from their CD Duo, which is available for purchase on iTunes. In the album notes, Hungarian Professor Péter Kováts, a Bartok-Pasztory Award-winning violinist, compares Mark O’Connor’s duo compositions and arrangements to those of the great classical composer Béla Bartók: “The roots of Mark O’Connor's compositions are in the traditional American fiddling styles, and I am sure his unique and excellent settings will serve the same goal that Béla Bartók’s Duos serve. Being a concert violinist and university violin pedagogue, I welcome the birth of these fantastic O’Connor Duos and wish great success for them!”
The O'Connor Method employs classic violin technique and theory, combined with American music, history, creativity and improvisation to teach students to become better skilled classical violinists and string players in the 21st century. The Six Violin Duos feature the American classics Faded Love, Jole Blon, St. Louis Blues, Gold Rush, Ashokan Farewell, and Emily's Reel. The goal of the O'Connor Method is for string players everywhere to fall in love with playing music and become bold, imaginative, and creative individuals. Six Violin Duets
These wonderful duos are a companion to Violin Book IV . I am so happy this book is now accessible via ibooks. After completing O’Connor Method teacher training in July 2015 and getting all the long way home to Australia,I was ready to purchase more books for my students, but found some difficulty getting small quantities here.So for us in countries challenged by this, ibooks is a perfect solution. I love having the audio at my fingertips while learning passages from the tunes with students,or listening and/or playing along with the whole tune. What an invaluable tool to be able to carry round in my bag on iPad to use out and about at lessons etc.The digital quality is excellent and it’s easy to use ! It’s a great long term investment,no worries about wearing out like hard copy and great retail value if a replacement is needed.I cannot recommend highly enough and am anxiously awaiting Violin Book V.
