“The moon is full, but a heavy cloud cover from the dying storm and the lingering rain limits my visibility. My headlamp light is quickly swallowed up in the darkness. The steady beam of light from the nearby lighthouse sweeps over a cataclysmic sight. It is slowly starting to sink in, this chapter of my life is coming to a violent end.”

Jack van Ommen relives his incredible adventure as “SoloMan”, from his 2005 departure from the Pacific Coast, with nothing else than his thirty foot sailboat and $150 left in his checking account. On November 16, 2013, after having visited 51 countries and with 48,000 nautical miles in his wake, his journey comes to a sudden end. The boat is lost and with it his few remaining possessions.
This is his story of a life changing experience filled with hope, gratitude and his faith in God and in the diversity of the people he meets.
