Publisher Description

The works in the exhibition, "Stutter and Twitch" make everything stop. Sort of. They resist linear time by freezing action and remain in limbo between the still and moving. They arrest development, stunt process, subvert system. These artworks make their viewers reconsider time by bringing in its opposite - not space, but stasis. And strange things happen in the interstices. In this catalogue, I discuss the work of Yael Bartana, Johanna Billing, David Claerbout, Nancy Davenport, Adad Hannah, Kristan Horton, and Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, as well as general themes of video, photography, stillness, and the resistance to change.
