Publisher Description

Imagine a reality where the worlds most powerful super-being does not grow up in Smallville, Kansas - or even America, for that matter : RED SON is a vivid tale of Cold War paranoia, that reveals how the ship carrying the infant who would later be known as Superman lands in the midst of the 1950s Soviet Union. Raised on a collective, the infant grows up and becomes a symbol to the Soviet people, and the world changes drastically from what we know - bringing Superman into conflict with Batman, Lex Luthor and many others. From the mind of Mark Millar, the best-selling writer of THE AUTHORITY and Wanted, comes this strangely different take on the Superman mythos. Featuring art by Dave Johnson, Kilian Plunkett, Andrew Robinson, and Walden Wong, with an introduction by film producer Tom DeSanto (X-Men, X2: X-Men United, Transformers), this edition also features an extensive sketch gallery by Johnson, Plunkett and Alex Ross.

    One of Superman’s Finest Stories!

Yes, this comic is technically non-canonical, but it IS part of DC’s Multiverse.

It’s also easy to see that the story’s impacted so many Superman projects in the years since its release in the early/mid-2000s.
The Injustice video games have borrowed from this, as have other stories ranging from All Star Superman (in terms of deconstructing and reconstructing the Superman mythos), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (partially), and even in episodes of the CLASSIC Justice League cartoons from Bruce Timm.

This is a superhero story that’s equally self-aware and fulfilling in its ambitions of being a notable Superman story. Even when Superman has a dark-retelling in an alternate history, he’s STILL Superman see down; and sometimes the pros cannot be separated from the cons at all.

Superman: Red Son is a very well-done comic book. And it’s deserving of a theatrical blockbuster film or television miniseries to its name (Watchmen style).
