Something is tapping. It isn't stopping.

At first, it's nothing. A faint, irregular sound-easy to dismiss.

Until it comes back.

And keeps coming back.

Day after day, the tapping settles into the edges of life. It doesn't get louder.

It gets closer.

You check the same place twice. Then three times. You tell yourself it's nothing.

But it feels deliberate now.

Timed.

Like it's waiting.

Attempts to find it fail. Ignoring it fails faster.

Because the worst part isn't the sound.

It's the growing sense that it wants something.

And that answering it might be the point where things stop being safe.
