It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom.
The accident season has been part of seventeen-year-old Cara's life for as long as she can remember. Towards the end of October, Cara's family becomes inexplicably accident-prone. They banish knives to locked drawers, cover sharp table edges with padding, switch off electrical items - but injuries follow wherever they go, and the accident season becomes an ever-growing obsession and fear.
But why are they so cursed? And how can they break free?
A bewitching, dark and beautiful novel that will stay with you long after the final page.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
We loved this odd, creepy story about three siblings trying to make sense of the curse that befalls their family around Halloween each year. Over the course of several weeks, teenagers Cara, Sam and Alice are prone to hurting themselves badly, leading their otherwise free-spirited mother to swaddle them in extra layers and disconnect the gas range in the kitchen. Combining the hypnotic pull of a fairytale and the familiarity of a contemporary coming-of-age tale, Dublin-based author Moïra Fowley-Doyle gives us an unforgettable novel that explores the messiness of love and the crushing force of secrets and denial.
