The Alington Inheritance

Orphaned Jenny Hill has always known that she is the illegitimate daughter of Richard Forbes, heir to Alington House and its fortune, who died in the war. The house passed to his brother and his family, and Jenny has grown up in a cottage just opposite the gates, living with her mother's former governess, and intimate with the Forbes family. Then just before her governess dies, she tells Jenny that her father did marry her mother, and she is the legitimate heir to Alington House and its fortune. Mrs. Forbes and her son Mac learn the truth as well, and start scheming how to keep the house and the fortune, through marriage or murder. When Jenny hears of their plans, she flees, but trouble follows her--and she is not necessarily the one who will suffer.
