Scripture reveals that God came down from Heaven on a number of occasions to establish His reign on Earth and to dwell among men. During these divine encounters, there was a majestic, royal pattern that transformed Earth into a sacred reflection of Heaven.
According to this royal pattern, God left His throne in Heaven to come down to man, and the place He chose to dwell became His throne on Earth. These brief encounters often took place at the summit of a mountain, the peak, where God was “enthroned.”
God’s presence transformed the summits of mountains. At Mount Sinai, for example, the peak appeared as if it was on fire. There were flashes of lightning, peals of thunder, and a blazing cloud, brilliantly lit from within. At the summit of Mount Sinai, Earth became a reflection of Heaven, and the peak became the place where Heaven and Earth meet.
This royal pattern of a mountain crowned with Heaven’s glory appears throughout the Bible. We find it in Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah and Micah. The royal pattern appears again in the life of Jesus, and is the key to unlock the meaning of what took place on the Mount of Transfiguration.
These encounters at the peak were for a purpose; they were pointing to the manner in which Heaven will come down to Earth at the end of the age. Jesus Christ will return, and He will establish a throne over the nations. His throne on Earth will be a reflection of His Father’s throne in Heaven. His reign will be the fulfillment of the Lord’s Prayer: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
The Capstone Prophecy is inevitable, and God will indeed dwell among men.
