Publisher Description
A pining-for-you, military hero, snowbound together romance from a New York Times bestselling author:
Captain Xavier Grey’s body is back amongst the beau monde, but his mind cannot break free from the horrors of war. His friends try to help him find peace. He knows he doesn’t deserve it. Just like he doesn't deserve the attentions of the sultry bluestocking intent on seducing him into bed...
Spinster Jane Downing wants off the shelf and into the arms of a hot-blooded man. Specifically, the dark and dangerous Captain Grey. She may not be destined to be his wife, but nothing will stop her from being his mistress. She could quote classical Greek by the age of four. How hard can it be to learn the language of love?
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Ridley's second Dukes of War Regency (after The Earl's Defiant Wallflower) proves that intellect doesn't have to consign a woman to a lonely life. Jane Downing is tired of being forgotten, but she's come to terms with her future as a spinster. When she encounters handsome Capt. Xavier Grey, she makes the rash decision to leave her London home, travel to his country cottage, and seduce him into a secret affair. While he details all of the reasons that she shouldn't become involved with him, she learns the innermost secrets of his wartime days and tries to prove to him that she wants to understand the man behind the heroic image. It soon becomes apparent that succumbing to lust might lead to greater emotional involvement. While the plot is somewhat predictable, the characters are affable, and humor is ever present thanks to a chaperoning cat. (BookLife)

The Captain’s Bluestocking Mistress
A great read, enjoyable light reading, a delightful adventure to find love
All the right components!
Erica has all the right components for a good historical romance.
Enjoyed the story of Xavier and Jane. Two complex characters not without faults, but both knowing at some point their union would be right.
They each play the other creating the right amount of angst, throw in a maladjusted feline for good measure along with a snowstorm that has them snowbound in a tiny cottage with only themselves for company. Yep that's about it in a nutshell, or is it ? Three thumbs up from me 👍👍👍
Favourite Dukes of War romance
This is my favourite Dukes of War romance. I have a particular fondness for bluestockings especially when they have a naughty streak – as is the cae with Jane Downing who decides she wants off the shelf and into the arms of a particular hot-blooded man as his mistress. Captain Xavier Grey survived the Napoleonic War but he suffers from post-war stress and nightmares and has come to the reluctant conclusion that he will never be fit to take his place in society again. He is horrified by Miss Downing’s request that he ruin her. Much as he is attracted to her, he is determined that if she will not protect her virtue and her reputation then he will have to do it. However, a snowbound cottage aids Jane’s schemes; she just didn’t bargain on falling in love!
