Publisher Description
Serial fiancée and struggling artist Lila Barton lives with her family in a dilapidated mansion. Penniless, directionless and having sworn off men, Lila is delighted to land a job working for her famous godfather who is directing a star-studded charity production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. She is even more thrilled to learn that Hollywood heart-throb Mitch Clayton will be one of the stars, although she's promised her sister she won't get engaged again ... this year at least!
But avoiding Mitch's advances is proving tricky. And then there's Mitch's stepbrother, Johnny, the Cinderfella of the Clayton clan. It turns out he's a man of many secrets and Lila can't help but be intrigued ...

Slightly disappointed
After reading recipe for disaster and being in love with the authors style of writing I confess to being bitterly disappointed in this book. Whilst the character of Lila was enjoyable to read I found the male American characters to be horribly flat and lifeless. I have forced myself to not give up because I was really hoping for the same magic from the authors first book to be replicated in this one but it has yet to happen. The premise for the book was exciting but the plot I have read before about an old manor house being used for a film. Admittedly that book the house was saved at the last minute by a film set and not the whole book like this one.
I really feel that the relationships between the main characters (not the Barton family) should have been fleshed out a lot more for one minute Johnny and Lila are arguing and the next he's flirting with her sister to make another man jealous and confessing his love (albeit to himself) to Lila. They haven't had enough time to form a proper relationship and it all feels horribly rushed.
Lila's character while enjoyable is seen as a bit of a joke and to be honest when she is cruel to her sister I didn't actually find it believable.
The mother who is such a strong character in the beginning changes into a one woman cooking machine and it doesn't do her justice at all.
Johnny... Oh dear where do I begin. The author had a great opportunity to really go mad with this character but he falls flat. You expect his character to be intriguing and full of depth but he's just words on paper and dull.
Mitch... Again oh dear. The character isn't made out to be stupid in fact he appears very shrewd and career driven so the fact he forgets Lila's name every time they speak , sometimes twice in the same sentence, really hurt my brain. He's either incredibly stupid or he's not.
The American scenes were boring. Sorry to be blunt but I read them carefully then got extremely bored and whenever his family is mentioned after that I found my irritation growing.
There's not much more I can say really and I hate leaving terrible reviews but I really feel ripped off and want to warn others from paying the price to download this book.
Recipe for Disaster is way better than this.
