Customer Reviews
Generic, Logical but nothing groundbreaking!
The book is well laid out in design however, after seeing the authors other book samples, I was disappointed.
Nothing ground breaking. Mostly a basic overview of logical steps & procedures. Regurgitated information from standard training, SOP & CRM manuals. Although it’s not a bad read, I don’t feel this would be a major advantage to any upgrade want to be.
The title leads one to believe it would or could be used as a reference guide. Not likely, Its more of a holistic approach. To me the term “Handbook” is misleading.
The information is very generic and general. There are no hidden gems here.
Most of the information in this book would already be known by anyone ready or able to upgrade. Generally the day to day considerations will be imparted on any normal line flight with any line Captain, at the bar on an overnight or at least on line training.
I don’t understand why these command upgrade books don’t actually break down scenarios. He made a short attempt in the MEL section, but fell short in my opinion.
He adds a few examples of situations/scenarios at the end of the book. But no hint of what would be, could be or should be considered from a long term Captains perspective. So no real training to this read.
There are no real junkets of information from weathered Captains here. It would have been nice if it would have made an attempt to impart ideas to the reader of how an experienced captain would think. Apart from maybe you could consider a few things....
In my mind a learning & teaching moment was missed.
You can at least come up with some failures and show the reader what you would do. What issues you would consider first, second and closing thoughts.
I feel he leads you to a generic end result without any guidance. In my opinion there is not much to really learn from this book.
In reflection Its not a bad book by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just not worth the asking price.
So, maybe save your money and search elsewhere.
