The Contract

   A Cowboy's Promise and a Mother's Love

"This whole setup sounds even worse sober than it did last night when I was drunk."  

Spur stared at the contract. The second page was his list of expectations added after a night of drinking. He had never intended to be tied down. And he certainly hadn't planned to marry a woman he didn't love.

Clare wasn't looking for a husband. Even if she was, Spur wouldn't have been on her list. He was a rambler. However, the idea of running her ranch alone terrified her. Most importantly, she needed a father for her children. No, she didn't choose Spur-her children did.

The contract was her idea. She needed a guarantee that Spur wouldn't run away when things became difficult-like after her baby was born.
