This gripping, provocative new novel by one of Australia's finest writers is a psychological thriller for the modern age.
'A tasty gothic tale, with echoes of Bluebeard and Psycho, about wealth, power and erotic fantasy.' The Sunday Times (UK)
'A gripping read. This haunting story provokes questions long after the final page.' Big Issue
'A high-octane tale of coercion, fantasy and feminism.' The Guardian
'A deftly written, tonally smooth, technically adroit and penetrating study of psychological extremity . . . Hooper shrouds the narrative in an uneasiness whose source is everywhere and nowhere simultaneously.' The Australian

The Engagement
I must admit that I was mislead by the promotion of this book, stating it to be a literary version of 'Fifty Shades of Grey'. I found it had little in common to the 'love' story that existed in 50 Shades, and was not as well written as promoted.
It took a long time to get the plot together, however the third & final part to the book was absolutely gripping. I am relieved to say that it ended up to be a very interesting & enjoyable book.
Contrived and annoying
I stuck with this book because of the element of suspense but, ultimately, found it repetitive and lacking credibility. The characters are unlikeable and the plot far-fetched. The ending was weak and I regretted wasting my time on it.

Mmmm definitely not worth the price tag, was palatable but could have been a whole lot better. Potential but not quite there....?? Could be one of those books with choose your own ending.
