I’m not a bad guy really
The author is British writer in the crime/thriller genre with numerous bestselling titles to his credit.
As the title here suggests, it’s a book about kidnappers and the small specialist squad of UK police set up to pursue them. The Vanishers are a husband and wife team who operate out of a funeral home, which is a great place to hide the evidence if no one coughs up the ransom. She’s also a dominatrix, which comes in handy keeping her thug of hubby in check. Then there’s the female defence lawyer whose healthy self respect took a hit after she got a killer off and he promptly killed again. And the dodgy cop playing on both sides of the metaphorical fence. Did I mention the international assassin for hire, or the Guy Ritchie-style gangster masquerading as legitimate businessman? All that and more awaits in this fast-paced, tightly plotted romp where everyone’s got an angle, all of them intersect, and nice guys run last (or get dead). There are plenty of amusing one-liners scattered about too (if you like your humour dark).
This is the first Simon Kernick title I have read. It won’t be the last.
