Publisher Description
A woman struggling with burnout learns to embrace the unexpected - and the man she enlists to help her - in this heartfelt new romance by the bestselling author of The Kiss Quotient, Helen Hoang.
When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her long-time boyfriend announces that he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She's going to embark on a string of one-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better.
That's where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex-he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she herself has just begun to understand.
However, when tragedy strikes Anna's family, she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that they also have to fight for themselves.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
A classical musician struggling with professional burnout, family judgment, and a faithless long-term boyfriend gets her groove back in the beautifully melancholy and meditative latest from Hoang (The Bride Test). Violinist Anna Sun is already in a major professional rut when, instead of the marriage proposal she expects, her parent-approved long-term boyfriend proposes that they experiment with an open relationship. Given what he perceives as Anna's lack of interest in sex, he doesn't expect that the experiment will go both ways. But then Anna meets sexy, tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep. Quan quickly proves that he only looks like a bad boy; he's patient, kind, and supportive as both a friend and sexual partner and, sweetly, brings food for Anna's unwelcoming family when her dad lands in the hospital. Hoang strikes a more somber tone in this outing, giving Anna daunting challenges to overcome, including some serious hang-ups around sex. Readers shouldn't expect a typical rom-com, but many will still swoon for this sensitive love story.
Customer Reviews
A story full of emotional intensity
Whoa, this one is going to get you in the gut and pull your heartstrings. The only reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars is because this story made me feel just a little bit too much, and I generally like my reading to be a bit more relaxed. This is jam packed with every emotion under the sun - be prepared for tears and laughs and heartache. I love how Helen writes with such beautiful authenticity, offering a glimpse into what it is like to think differently.
Love the recognition this book gives to love on the spectrum
This book is amazing. I loved its raw honesty and humour.
Worth the wait!
After reading Helen’s first novel, I waited impatiently for the next one to be released! It took me a couple of goes to read but it was worth the effort. What made it hard for me to read was what made it a wonderful book. Every uncomfortable emotion was right there on the page, making my skin react and taking me on their journey. A terrific book & worth learning to sit with uncomfortable emotions to see it through to the end.
I’m looking forward to the next one!
