Publisher Description

This beautiful book is about a special relationship. It is a relationship between a sea creature called an ovulid, a close relation of the cowries, and its host, a sea fan, seawhip, soft coral or, in some cases, a black coral.

The natural history, roosting behaviour, distribution, habitat and reproduction of each species of ovulid is recorded for the first time, together with the special adaptations of their mantles that make them invisible on their hosts.

We have three main aims: First we hope to show you how to identify living ovulids you encounter or photograph while diving. Second we provide a guide to identification of their hosts by their external features. Third we hope to amaze you with the beauty and intricacy of this relationship between ovulid and host.

There is a wealth of information here for the serious scientist, the interested amateur and the lover of all things beautiful.
