Two cold cases, an array of mysterious clues and a complex, remarkably engaging cast of characters elevate this dark, twisty Norwegian noir above many other police procedurals. William Wisting has been drawn to a cold case disappearance since first investigating it 24 years prior. Now, the missing woman’s husband—whom Wisting has befriended over the years—is tied to a second, far more infamous disappearance, which Wisting’s journalist daughter is reporting on for a major newspaper. Jørn Lier Horst does a marvellous job of reeling us in from the book’s opening pages, and we found ourselves attempting to play sleuth and place clues and details together along with the investigators. As the story unfolded, and we got to know each character, we were constantly gripped, surprised and oh-so ready for the next Cold Case Quartet novel.

Another very enjoyable Wisting story. Jørn Lier Horst writes a very engaging tale. I like the progression of the plot with its believable characters. I would recommend for any reader interested in police investigation stories
Doesn’t live up to the promise
A different approach to a crime triller when the guilty party is decided so early, but after that the whole story is thin. A lack of plot development is covered up by convenient turns of events, and the police conduct is almost laughable - certainly would never stand up in court so ******spoiler alert**** probably a good thing the suspect saves them the bother
