“The Lady of the Camellias” is a great novel written by Alexandre Dumas, fils, a French writer and dramatist, the son of Alexandre Dumas. It became immediately popular in Paris in 1848 and later in the whole world. Dumas got a good education and started writing at early age. Inspired by actual events he wrote the novel when he was twenty four. It's a story about beautiful lady of pleasure Marie Duplessis, who died very young from tuberculosis. The novel was made into a play and then Giuseppe Verdi turned it into "La Traviata" opera.


In the novel “The Lady of the Camellias” the main character Marguerite Gautier leads a riotous life. But soon she has to make a hard choice. She refuses her brilliant life in Paris and came over to the countryside with a young lover Armand Duval. But plans for a happy family life can't come true because an idyllic life is broken by Armand's father, who comes to Marguerite to express doubts about her true feelings towards his son.
