Over the next thirteen years they are torn apart, then brought back together, time and time again. It’s a journey of dreams, of desires, of jealousy, of forgiveness – and above all, love.
And as Lucy is faced with a devastating choice, she wonders whether their love is a matter of destiny or chance.
…what if this is how their story ends?

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
If you liked Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You, you’ll love The Light We Lost. Centred around NYC college students Lucy and Gabe—who bond after meeting on 9/11 and then drift apart—Jill Santopolo’s debut is about the enduring power of first love. Told in a confessional diary style from Lucy’s point of view, the novel explores chance, choice, fate and regret with sophisticated surety. Santopolo’s characters are layered and flawed, with well-placed breadcrumbs guiding you through their stories.
Such a beautiful story. While the story line was predictable, it was predictable in a good way. It had me by the heart strings and a blubbering mess of emotions at the end. Truly loved this book and look forward to reading more by Santopolo.
What a beautiful engrossing story!
I couldn’t put it down and having now reached the end know that I will be thinking about this book and its characters for a
long time to come. I would love to read more of Lucy’s story .
