Publisher Description
In "The Lost Ghost" Mrs. John Meserve shares her experience with her friend, Mrs. Emerson, about living in a haunted house and seeing a ghost. The event occurs when Mrs. Meserve lives in a house with two widows who cook, clean, and care for her as mothers would. On one occasion, Mrs. Meserve returns home and leaves her coat on the table by the door before retiring for the night, but once in her room she starts hearing a faint noise at her door. When Mrs. Meserve opens her door, she discovers a little girl holding her coat and soon realizes the girl appears to be a ghost. After accepting her coat she asks the child her name, only to receive the response of "I cannot find my mother" before the child disappears. Upon witnessing this chilling experience, she summons Mrs. Bird and Mrs. Dennison for an explanation about the ghost child.
