Boothby has presented the notion that hatred and vengeance are the emotions that will first destroy its bearer. The motif of the novel is the futility of the will to cause destruction. Even if the reasons are justified and warranted, yet the consequences will be destructive. An amazing narrative, it brilliantly captures the essence of the theme.
