A REESE WITHERSPOON BOOKCLUB PICK

Soon to be a major motion picture, The Nightingale is a multi-million copy bestseller across the world. It has become a phenomenon that has enthralled a generation of readers.

Bravery, courage, fear and love in a time of war, from
New York Times bestselling author Kristin Hannah.

"Wrenching, convincing . . . bittersweet" Publishers Weekly

Despite their differences, sisters Viann and Isabelle have always been close. Younger, bolder Isabelle lives in Paris while Viann is content with life in the French countryside with her husband Antoine and their daughter. But when the Second World War strikes, Antoine is sent off to fight and Viann finds herself isolated so Isabelle is sent by their father to help her.

As the war progresses, the sisters' relationship and strength is tested. With life changing in unbelievably horrific ways, Viann and Isabelle will find themselves facing frightening situations and responding in ways they never thought possible as bravery and resistance take different forms in each of their actions.

Vivid and exquisite in its illumination of a time and place that was filled with atrocities, but also humanity and strength, Kristin Hannah's novel will provoke thought and discussion that will have readers talking long after they finish reading.

The Nightingale

Absolutely loved this book. It honours the bravery and sacrifice of women during war time; stories that have been neglected. Should be on Year 12 reading lists!

Breath taking

Such an amazing story of strength determination love and heroism. How easy our lives are and how thankful we should all be that we are so lucky every day.

The Nightingale

Having Dutch parents and knowing about the atrocities that happened in WW11 made this book a truly great read.

It was very sad and I had not read a book before on the complete perspective of the conquered in a country, and of the life they were forced to live from the beginning to the end of war.

This book touched my soul for the wasted years, lives, plus memories that can never be erased from their minds and hearts in their sleeping nor waking times. Just horrific for them.

Thank you so much for a necessary read and of the appreciation for having lived a youth classed as normal, and our children and grandchildren have experienced the same.

Not everyone has been so fortunate.
