APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Australian screenwriter Kaneana May’s confident debut novel delivers an unfiltered peek behind the curtain of reality TV. The One follows three women, each on their own search for love, connected by a dating show: Bonnie in front of the camera, Darcy behind it, and Penelope watching from home. May clearly revels in the corniness of reality TV, but emerging from the soapy scenes and dialogue are resonant insights into the pain of losing something important—a lover, a pregnancy, good health. Skilfully combining humour and pathos, May has created relatable characters and an entertaining story that will keep readers hooked.
