The Ownley Inn

In this novel, which was first published in 1939, author Joseph C. Lincoln collaborated with his son Freeman to produce the sort of fresh and salty tale of Cape Cod that has made him so famous and well-loved.


Dick Clarke, in disgrace because of the theft of a valuable book from the Knowlton Library, finds himself on old Sepatonk Island, staying at the Ownley Inn, run by Seth Hammond Ownley, who, when asked the reason for the cannon on the front lawn, invariably replies, "To repel boarders." Then things begin to happen.
