Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author best known for writing children's stories including "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Andersen achieved worldwide fame for writing innovative and influential fairy tales. Apart from writing for kids, he worked on novels, biographies and poetry. He was the first Danish author to emerge from the lowest class. He enjoyed fame as a novelist, dramatist, and poet, but his fairy tales are his greatest contribution to world literature.
