The Racing Car - Porsche 917 is the second in the made for iBooks series on iconic racing cars from Monza Books. Written by renowned journalist and former sports editor of Autocar, Ray Hutton gives us his personal perspective on the remarkable cars that dominated sports competition on both sides of the Atlantic in the early 1970s. Ray begins the story inspired by an interview he conducted with the great Mark Donohue at Riverside Raceway in 1973 to discover the story behind the Porsche 917/30 that was laying waste to all comers in its domination of Can Am racing. From California Ray travels back to the very beginning of the 917 story in Stuttgart when Porsche stunned the motor racing community by building twenty-five 917s to qualify for entry to the world sports car championship.


Extensive archive photography compliments the text while exclusive video segments specially commissioned for the book feature Richard Attwood, Porsche’s first Le Mans winning driver, discussing features of the 917 and his Le Mans victory on location with the actual winning car, 917-023. Other video elements include segments from the Porsche archives and again, exclusive video with the RofGo collection curator Adrian Hamilton giving his perspective on the blue and orange livery that made the Gulf Porsche 917s so  memorable, despite them only winning Le Mans in Steve McQueen’s eponymous movie.
