Grisham’s storytelling jumps back and forth across Banning’s life, unraveling a complicated family history, the horrors of the World War II Pacific theatre and the flammable racial dynamics of the small-town South. The Reckoning
An entertaining read, and at times a fascinating read. Grisham has managed to piece together a story as old as the hills and yet one that takes the reader on an unexpected journey. For me though the fascinating historical narrative in Part 2 was my favourite part, as it turned out I sensed the ending early. That said I would also say Grisham touched on some very powerful and important themes in the storytelling, for which he is rightfully accredited a master. You do come away feeling empathy and sympathy for Pete... at least I did.
