Publisher Description
In this modern-day Hunt for Red October, an armed nuclear submarine is taken over and must be hunted down before its weapons are launched.
The USS Kentucky – a Trident ballistic missile submarine – is on a routine cruise of the Pacific when it receives a launch order. It is cut off from all counter orders and begins the eight-day transit to the launch site. What the crew doesn't know is that those launch orders didn't come from the U.S. government...
Rogue elements within the Mossad have learned that Iran has developed its first nuclear weapon and, in ten days, will detonate it – and the target is Israel. With limited time, this rogue group initiates Operation Trident Deception. They'll transmit false orders and use a U.S. nuclear submarine to launch the attack.
With only eight days before the Kentucky is in launch range, one senior officer must assemble and lead a team of attack submarines to find, intercept, and neutralize the Kentucky before it can unleash a devastating nuclear attack.
A full-throttle military thriller with truly devastating stakes of global proportion, perfect for fans of Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler and Brad Thor.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
When a US nuclear submarine receives a falsified order to attack Iran, an intense covert effort is required to prevent the unthinkable. Unfolding day by day and hour by hour, The Trident Deception is a pulse-pounding military thriller that plays out on a global stage. Author and retired Navy Commander Rick Campbell draws on his two decades of submarine tours to exhibit rich detail without getting bogged down in technical jargon. That makes for a streamlined pageturner that cross-cuts dramatically between settings and an ambitious cast of characters. The first in a series of submarine thrillers from Campbell, this is sure to appeal to fans of Tom Clancy’s The Hunt for Red October.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Fans of submarine thrillers who are saddened by the demise of Tom Clancy will welcome Campbell's debut. Israeli Prime Minister Levi Rosenfeld refuses to heed the advice of his minister of intelligence to nuke the Iranian military site at Natanz, where the final preparations for a nuclear weapon are being completed. Later, a terrorist attack prompts Rosenfeld to approve a secret plan that will trick America into doing the job for them. After receiving false orders, the ballistic missile submarine USS Kentucky races from the waters off Hawaii toward the Persian Gulf. The American military deploys subs, ships, and planes with orders to stop the Kentucky, but she fights her way past one and all, determined to fulfill her mission, which is now to destroy all of Iran. You may not be able to actually drive a sub after reading this one, but you'll probably know enough to at least launch a salvo of Trident missiles.

The first of many good sub warfare novels….
I really loved this book. Read it quick. Clearly written by someone with significant underwater warfare experience at a command level. A great plot with plenty of naval detail and memorable terminology. I loved the RAN involvement too. Totally unexpected.
I look forward to reading Empire Riding.
