Byline: Dr Ahmed Rashid Malik - Email drahmadrashidmalik@hotmaiL.com Japan had been under changes from the very beginning of its collapse in 1945. The relationship with the United States virtually strengthened Japanese economy and its militarization especially under the Bush Doctrine during the Heisei Period since 1989 including defence set up, expenditures, legislations, and multilateral participation in peacekeeping operations the world oveL The Persian Gulf became an important area since the Soviet move into Afghanistan in 1979 but Japan's non-combat participation took more years to happen. The Showa Period (up to 1989) burnt the ashes of the war tragedy and ultimate collapse. Peacekeeping operation in Cambodia and elsewhere, Iraq's first and second war, and Afghanistan after 9/11 tremendously enhanced Japan's war-related non-combat but military activities at the expanse of its 1946 Peace Constitution, public opinion, and politics. Japan of the Showa Period and of today's Heisei period is quite different from each other.
