The War Lantern

On February 27, 1941, bombs fall, families vanish,

and the war lantern burns …

In England, schoolboy Marcus must keep his work at Parnall Aircraft factory a secret, even from his mother, for the fear of Hitler’s spies. In Germany, Nazi officials are about to take Gisele’s baby brother away. Overhead, underage rear gunner Tail End Charlie flies in a Royal Air Force bomber. Each lead seemingly separate lives, until the roar of bombs — and the silence in the aftermath — connects them all.

Governor General’s Literary Award–winning author Philippa Dowding delivers a carefully researched and powerfully moving novel about family, community, and resilience.
