Over the course of an eventful day, these thoughtful young men speak honestly and movingly about their fate, their anger at its unfairness, and what it means to be alive, until their budding friendship organically turns into something more. Each tells his part of the story in alternating, time-stamped chapters. Other voices mostly friends from Rufus's foster home and people they encounter fill out the narrative, revealing the influence both boys have had on those around them. It hardly matters that the title telegraphs the ending; it's still heartbreaking when it arrives. Ages 14 up.

THEIR LOVE IS SO PURE IM SAD
Nothing but praise
Finishing this book at work was probably the biggest mistake I’ve ever made in life. The book built me up, gave me hope of their survival, even when I knew their fate. And then destroyed me in the end. 10/10 would recommend. It’s left me craving more of Mateo and Rufus’ story. It’s wonderful.
Great Lesson, Great Book
I loved how this book made me feel about how I livid my life. I could relate to both main characters and loved the way the story was told and written. The ending, although expected, was still unseen and heart wrenching.
