Publisher Description
Introduction Traditionally, the outlook on illness and health is pathogenic, i.e. preventing illness and disease in order to achieve health (1), where health is defined as the absence of illness or normal blood lipid levels. Low physical activity, smoking and overweight are considered unhealthy and regarded as risk factors for illness. Preventive public health work focuses on supporting and motivating a person to give up behaviors associated with increased risk of illness (2). If a certain lifestyle or behavior results in illness it is conceivable that other lifestyles or behaviors promote health. A salutogenic orientation focuses on salutary factors e.g. lifestyle that actively promote health and well-being and have no connections with a specific illness or illness or disease in general, as distinct from healthy dietary habits or physical activity considered to reduce the risk of illness (3). It is likely that attitudes are related to the way in which people choose to live (4) which involve the individual level dimensions of health promotion and to empower peoples salutary behaviors.
