Totally Boxed

The plot of this collection of stories seems to revolve around a number of human women, who hope to find shifter mates. Unfortunately the Shifter Council is against Shifters and humans mating even though there are plenty of willing shifters seeking mates. The numbers of young born to shifter couples is decreasing and even then only 10% of the young are female so humans that are aware of shifters may be the answer. The premise of the plot is good but I felt that the individual stories were a bit too predictable. I only read the first 2 short stories but I was not overly impressed and they failed to hold my interest.

There are some things I didn’t like about these shorts. The overuse of ‘mate’ to address mates instead of a name. (As an American living in Australia for over 15 years, it was hard not to give them all Aussie accents.) A couple of typos (not really typos….more like things were edited and then parts of a sentence weren’t edited around it properly…it happens) in places that break your immersion.

But, all in all, it met my expectations. The stories are a bit quirky and the shifters aren’t your typical ones. It’s pretty novel reading about some of these guys/gals compared to your normal bear/wolf/panther shifters. It was nice to see a more humorous take on that aspect.

The stories are long enough to feel like you got closure, but not so long that you will need to spend days upon days finishing the set. If you enjoy your shifter treats in smaller doses rather than longer stories, then this set will give you exactly what you’re looking for.
