Publisher Description

Do you have a teenager who is chatty one day and morose the next? One who refuses to come out of their room or get off their smart phone? One who argues endlessly with you and everyone around them? Well, welcome to the world of tricky teens!

In Tricky Teens, clinical psychologist Andrew Fuller covers the joys and challenges of raising teenage girls and boys. With his trademark warmth, good humour and insight he offers crucial advice on achieving a happy home life while raising teens. He focuses on:

• What is actually happening in the teenage brain
• Common issues that most teens face including anxiety, arguments, computer addiction, peer pressure, perfectionism and self harm
• Ways to parent teenage boys and teenage girls – and why these methods differ
• Identifying and defusing clash points in the family
• Creating a detailed 6-week plan that will help break negative behaviour patterns within a family and create positive new ones
• Essential conversations you can have with your teen, including information about love, money, drugs, jobs and personal values, that will help shape them into the wonderful mature people you know they will be… one day!

For over thirty years Andrew has worked with teens and their parents, helping them keep the communication lines open through the turbulent, often confusing and mostly angst-ridden teen years. Importantly, Andrew stresses that teenage boys think and develop differently to teenage girls – and so he offers advice specific to each gender. Overall his main focus is on creating and nurturing open and solid relationships between parents and their teens that will lead into a well-balanced adulthood.

As one of Australia’s most in-demand speakers to school communities, Andrew has distilled his years of practical wisdom and knowledge into one reassuring book, to help and support parents during the teen years…without going crazy!

Andrew Fuller works with many communities and schools in Australia and overseas. He is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne. Andrew has acted as the scientific consultant for ABC TV on the science of teenage brains, is the principal consultant for the national drug prevention strategy REDI, an Ambassador for Mind Matters, a Member of the National Coalition Against Bullying, and is the Co-Director of Resilient Youth Australia. He is the author of numerous books, including the bestselling Tricky Kids.

Gnutton ,

You've done it again Andrew!

Thank you Andrew for another classic parent guide. This practical and thoughtfully set out reference will be on our coffee for a long time to come, with a steady stream of new teenage friends through volunteer work, nephews and friends' teenagers around us. I think what is most enjoyable about this guide is section three - like a comforting, slow bath - I've enjoyed following the pearls of wisdom and taking time with the suggestion. In my opinion the quick go to topics in section two are invaluable to help us all manage those unexpected and curly questions and situations.
