John Wayne’s fictional character Rooster Cogburn said the above in the 1969 Hollywood western classic “True Grit.” But the recent discovery of a long forgotten memoir reveals it was said in the real Old West 107 years earlier by a boy of just 16 who was a rattler-quick draw away from blasting a fist size hole into a man’s chest.

This young lad would go on to be one of the Old West’s most feared (yet, virtually unknown today) gunfighters, hired gun regulators and lawmen.
