Trusty John

The Brothers Grimm (or Die Brüder Grimm), Jacob (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859), were German academics, linguists, cultural researchers but first af all the best-known storytellers of folk tales, and popularized stories such as "Cinderella" ("Aschenputtel"), "The Frog Prince" ("Der Froschkönig"), "Hansel and Gretel" ("Hänsel und Gretel"), "Rapunzel", "Rumpelstiltskin" ("Rumpelstilzchen"), and "Snow White" ("Schneewittchen"). This brief story teaches the lesson of trusting who is close to you. Although faithful John was always been trustworthy and honest, the king does not trust his desires when this trust matters most at the necessary moment. In order to give the lack of trust back to John, the king hazards to sacrifice his own children to bring John back to life. In return for his ability to take this step of faith and sacrifice his children, the king is rewarded by not only getting his faithful servant back but also getting his children back.
