Publisher Description
In August 1943 Norwegian-American CBS correspondent Eric Sevareid was aboard a C-46 transport plane that crashed en route to Chunking, China. The army command transport came down in the Burmese jungle near the Chinese border. The aircraft was carrying State Department dignitaries as well as British diplomats. Sevareid was among the twenty passengers who were rescued and nursed to safety over a month's time. This was a period when the Chinese Nationalists under Chiank Kai-shek were being supplied with arms from the U.S. and its Allies.
