Three friends on a road-trip none of them want to take and a promise to a fourth friend that cannot be broken. Follow Mikki Connors, Sass McKinlay and Hope Thornton as they come to terms with a promise made in haste but a promise none of them can forget - even if it means facing the pasts they've worked so hard to escape. Can there be any truth in the old adage, 'home is where the heart is', after all?
Hope Thornton didn't need to see the plume of acrid smoke from the stack as she approached the town to know she was approaching the place she should call home. The deep foreboding in her gut had warned her kilometres back. The red dirt, the road trains and the miles of nothing had helped build the tension and now there was no escape. Whoever said 'home is where the heart is' hadn't been born in the middle of a slag heap to a father whole alcohol fueled violence raged nightly agains the Gods that left him with three kids to raise alone. Hope never blamed her mother for taking off not long after she was born. She had done the same thing as soon as she was old enough, vowing never to return to the miserable hole in the outback that made slaves of women to big paychecks and nothing more. If it hadn't been for the childhood promise she'd made to her friend she wouldn't be here now. She'd keep her word and be gone with the dawn, her childhood home - and all those residing in it still - be damned.
