Publisher Description
Media asks you to succeed in four different components. The SACs, School-assessed Task and examination reward different evidence, so each needs its own preparation. This guide teaches all four and keeps their demands clear.
Two School-assessed Coursework tasks carry 10 per cent each. The School-assessed Task carries 40 per cent. The examination carries the other 40. The SAT and the examination are worth exactly the same — neither outranks the other, and a student who treats the folio as the real work and the paper as an afterthought has given away as much as one who does the reverse.
What the guide puts in front of you:
- All five Areas of Study at the depth the study design's key knowledge asks for — narratives and their contexts, media production research and experimentation, and pre-production planning in Unit 3; media production, and agency and control in the media, in Unit 4
- Weight that follows the examination instead of splitting evenly: Section B is drawn from only two of the five Areas of Study, and those same two carry both SACs, so they get the deepest treatment here
- Six chapters on the School-assessed Task, end to end — finding an idea, testing it, the research folio, the pre-production plan, the production itself, and the record of feedback and refinement
- Separate SAC Focus and SAT Focus callouts, because the two assess different outcomes and reward different evidence
- "Try It" boxes answered on the spot, and a worked practice set closing every teaching chapter
- Annotated High-Scoring Responses written for this book, showing where each mark is earned
- Common Mistake callouts carrying published figures from VCAA's external assessment reports, each named with the examination and question it came from — and carrying no attribution where no published figure exists
- An exam-strategy chapter with a minute-by-minute budget for a paper that allows no technology of any kind
- A full-length 80-mark practice examination, both sections, with complete worked solutions
- A glossary of the terms students use loosely and lose marks on
A "What's Changed" chapter opens the book for anyone working from older notes, an older teacher's handouts or a second-hand guide. Four of the five Units 3 and 4 Areas of Study were renamed when the current study design replaced the 2018-2023 one, every Area of Study now carries an overarching inquiry question, and the paper itself changed shape — it was a 75-mark examination with a 20-mark Section B, and it is now an 80-mark examination with a 30-mark Section B. The chapter also says plainly what did not change, so you know which of your existing notes are still good.
Plain-English and ESL-friendly throughout, with Australian media, Australian regulators and Australian case material.
