Publisher Description

Abstract. This article explores the relationship between the organization of rural survival in Mexico, transnational migration, and changes in the global political economy. It examines the cultural and social implications of the survival of participants in a migratory circuit that connects Huaquechula, in the state of Puebla, with metropolitan New York. It argues that notwithstanding the continuities observed in rural ways of life in Mexico, the transformations registered in the Mexican countryside in the last three decades have brought about significant ruptures in the social and cultural organization of survival.
