When I Grow Up

The 2011-2012 first grade at Rock Creek Elementary in Louisville, Kentucky studied Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.  They wondered what it would be like if they grew up to be famous Americans. So, they wrote, illustrated, and narrated stories about what they wanted to be when they grew up. 


First grade is a reading and writing developmental year. Within nine months, first graders are introduced to sentence structure, organizing thoughts on paper, spelling, capitalization rules, grammar, and much more. The following book is the effort of 18 first graders putting these emerging skills to practice. A combination of correctly spelled words and words spelled phonetically is developmentally appropriate for first graders. Enjoy reading and listening to our authors.
