Customer Reviews
Immersive, Suspicious and Haunting
When The Lights Go Out by Chris Curran is an immersive, suspicious and haunting read. It follows the journey of Ava, a struggling actress who has received an opportunity as a fill-in for the Chimera Theatre Group. Taking a break from her established boyfriend, Will, Ava is determined to make a name for herself. However, the theatre group members have secrets, motivations and interests that will make Ava question everything. While this is unfurling, Ava is also dealing with the delicate dynamics of her stepmother and father. In the depths of her psyche, her biological mother's drowning resurfaces. Chris Curran has done a fantastic job delivering a fast-paced, immersive read with varied and distinctive characters. I couldn't have predicted the twists and turns and the ending, which was shocking. A 4-star read, and I'm looking forward to reading more work by Chris Curran.
